The California Supreme Court has overturned a gay marriage ban in a ruling that would make the nation's largest state the second one to allow gay and lesbian weddings.
In what world is California the nation's largest state?
That aside, woohoo!

Wow, color me corrected because apparently it is!

Largest number of people. That is usually refered to as "most populated state" or something. Largest usually refers to area. Grumble from a Texan :)

Although either way, Texas is second.

Yeah, but I can handle being 2nd. It's being 3rd that's an insult. I'm mean, Alaska doesn't really count anyway. It's kinda like being the 2nd tallest kid in the class behind the mentally handicapped son of a basketball player.

Ok, so we got MA and CA, next we need PA, VA, and WA. Then we move on to the *B's.

Actually, I'm mildly worried about pushback from this. Successes too early can energize a large minority, and I esp. hope this doesn't overshadow this year's election any. :/

maybe I'm part Libertarian, but what business does the federal or state government have telling people how to run their personal lives? This is the part about any kind of marraige ban that I take issue with. Seriously - if there is a religious institution that you ascribe to that will officiate your wedding, then the ov't should not be able to tell you not to. Of course, if it's all about the financial aspect of not paying out or validating wills on the death of one partner, or about changing the forms to allow for someone not of the opposite gender to be put in medical insurance or power of attourney or some other legal and financial crap, that ticks me off even more.

also, there are no *B's, are there? ;)

The only *B's I can think of are AB, NB, and MB, all in Canada. :P

And I'm with Liz on this one.

I'm slightly worried, but this isn't exactly breaking new ground (already in MA, plus CA already had domestic partnerships, plus everyone thinks CA is crazy). And I'd rather take victories and deal with the consequences than the other way around :-)

What about GA, IA, and LA?

Here's the latest on PA, I believe.

Update: I just read an article in the statesman that doesn't look so good. A US-wide poll from 2007 showed 55 against versus 36 for. Now, this is CA and I'm not sure about how many would vote for a constitutional ammendment against gay marriage, but still. It looks like a majority are against it =(
