Yay, I'm 25! I get a discount on my car insurance (I think at least), and I can rent a car without any problems! Also a perfect square, and the smallest hypotenuse squared in a Pythagorean triple. And (25 mod 10)^2 = 25. I think I'll stop now.

I hope I never get blasé about my birthday. I love special occasions! Tonight we're gonna eat at Copeland's (note to self: eat small lunch) and maybe see a movie. Hot Fuzz opens today, made by the same people who did Shaun of the Dead which I really liked, so we might go for that :-)

I joined Facebook yesterday, which probably makes me user #1 billion or something. It seems neat enough.

Last night I worked on congressvotes and it's almost ready to go! The weirdest problem I had was that in most votes "Yea" and "Nay" are used, but some use "Aye" and "No", confusingly enough.

Haha! I SO used to do that all the time as a kid. I'd also spend boring sermons doing all the math I could think of to the numbers of the hymns.

Happy birthday to someone who is a full decade younger than me! OMG, am I old. In less than 30 days, I'll be 36. And you know what? I don't have any concerns about being 36.

I figure by 40 I've settled into my "mid-life" and around 50 I can celebrate Bill going to college, and Grace hitting her junior prom year. By 60, I can start to relax (hopefully the kids will be through college by then *LOL*), and by 70 maybe I'll be looking at retirement behavior.

Life is good, isn't it? :) :) :)

By the way - thank you for sharing that article. I liked having a long and thoughtful article to read while I'm waiting at the Saturn dealership for my car to be repaired (driver's side mirror) and an oil change. The author wrote it well enough that I could "feel" the commutes.

My dad used to commute between 45 minutes and 1 1/2 hours each way from Munster, IN, to Cicero, IL, where he worked for General Electric for about 8 years (he transferred to the Louisville Appliance Park in 1986). He said his reasoning was that he didn't want his kids in Chicago schools - Indiana's were better, and he felt the sacrifice was worth it.

Jay doesn't realize how easy his commute is, I believe. He's never had to drive more than about 20 minutes either way to any of his jobs. Heh - and now he commutes about 25 steps to the den most mornings .

My 40-minutes-on-average one-way commute is one of the factors that led to me quitting my job. That tacks on about an extra 1.5 hours every day that I'd have to be away from my child (even if his day care were right next to work, he has to ride in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat, which means even though we're in the car together, I can't even see him, much less interact with him) on top of the time I'd spend at work. I hated that commute when I didn't have a child; I think I'd dislike it that much more now.

Yeah, I can totally understand. I guess I've been spoiled with short commutes, and I'd like to keep it that way!
