From the bow of the ship you can get a sense for how big the main guns are. Our tour guide said that when they fired them, the whole ship would shake.

After that we took a quick tour of Honolulu - here's a nice view of part of the city.

Our main destination was the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. We weren't allowed to stop but I got some pictures from the bus.

The cemetery was very elegant - rows and rows of graves with the occasional flowers.

From the front you can see there's some sort of memorial or something past the lawn, but I'm not sure what it is.

The trees lining the road were quite nice. I think they were called "Bana trees" or something like that. (we saw them a lot in Hawaii)

We continued on our Honolulu tour - this is the state capitol, supposedly the only one in the US without a dome.

Here's the Hawaii Supreme Court building, which used to hold the seat of Hawaiian government. The statue in front is of Kamehameha I, who was the first ruler of all the Hawaiian islands.

They had some vintage martial law notices on the outside.

Afterwards, I looked around the US Army Museum of Hawaii, which was next door to our hotel. It's located in a former coastal artillery battery.
