  • Summary: There were periodically numbers along the walls. Our guide explained that the original surveyors used them to keep track of where they'd been and avoid getting lost.

  • Summary: The discoloration on the cave wall was caused by bats touching it! The oils on their skin stain the walls just like the ones in human hands do (which is why we didn't touch the walls).

  • Summary: This stalactite is known as the Lion's Tail. It looked like a miracle that it didn't collapse. Luckily we didn't have to walk under it!

  • Summary: After emerging from the Big Room, we walked a bit on a nature trail. These buildings were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and look particularly Southwestern.

  • Summary: This awesome sign was a warning before the hike down to the cavern from the surface, which is over a mile and 750 feet(!) down. We took the elevator instead.
