poetry stories blog

My name is Miriam Kates and I live with friends in Austin, TX. I'm actively trying to leave, because no matter how many friends here are still willing to take care of me, Austin doesn't feel like home. The weather just doesn't make sense and I miss the turning of the leaves in fall. I miss the first tentative blossoms of the puff trees in spring. I miss the green. Having been radicalized to the permaculture movement during a four-month stint in Thailand last year, I've decided to be a farmer, somewhere near Philadelphia (so I can still sail with Gazela and weave with Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers). I am especially interested in small-scale intensive urban farming, permaculture design, and natural building. If you want to talk to me, you can try sending me a message here.

The links to the left are the webcomics I read. I know there are an awful lot, but I have time on my hands. I expect that when I become a farmer that I will let these slide.

Some pictures, since I know that's the easiest way to show you who I am:

A Note About Online Journals
I've taken my journal down and have linked to my Live Journal blog instead. I've become quite fond of their security and filters. Maybe it's a sign of maturity that I no longer feel the desire to air my dirty laundry in public. If you are in the habit of reading my journal and would like access to my dirty laundry, I'm afraid you'll have to create an account with Live Journal and let me know who you are so I can add you to my lists.
